Neat Has Stopped Working

If you are experiencing this message after installation, we recommend first updating to the latest version of Neat available.

Click here to download and install the latest update.

Next, make certain that the Neat program has administrative rights when launching:

  1. Right-click on the Neat icon and choose ‘Run as administrator’

  2. If your computer is running Windows 7, you may see a pop-up that asks, “Do you want the following program to make changes to this computer?” Click Yes.

Neat 5 will now attempt to open with administrative rights. If the software runs successfully, the issue has been resolved.

If you continue to receive the Stopped Working message after updating and running as admin, please browse to the following location:

C:\ProgramData\The Neat Company\Neat

NOTE: The ProgramData folder is hidden by default on most Windows Vista/Windows 7 computers. To show the hidden folder, click on the Organize button and choose Folder and Search Options. Click the View tab and place a dot next to Show Hidden Files and Folders, then press Apply and OK.

Once you’ve opened the Neat folder in ProgramData, locate the file named NeatActivationInfo.nv5.  Drag this file from this folder to your Desktop and try launching once again.

This will prompt you to reactivate your account. Launch Neat, and you will be prompted to enter your email and password.

Sign in with your email and password.

Cloud Storage
NeatCloud plans come with either 5, 20, or 50 GB of space on our cloud servers for your files. When you choose to sync, all of your Neat files will be copied to the cloud, so you may want to know the size of your existing Neat cabinet, if you have one. We recommend you choose a plan with enough room for your cabinet to grow.

PC Customers:
1) In your Start menu, click Documents
2) Locate a folder called "Neat Data"
3) Right-click and choose "Properties"

Mac Customers:
1) Open you "Documents" folder
2) Click on the "Neat Library" file
3) Choose File > Get Info from the menu bar

Expanded Search
When you create an Expanded Search, NeatCloud will include results from your Evernote, Dropbox, or Google Docs accounts in addition to your Neat Digital Filing System.

NeatCare Premium Support
Some NeatCloud plans include NeatCare – premium technical support, as well as accidental damage protection for your Neat scanner. Your NeatCare support will continue as long as you are on an eligible NeatCloud plan.

Web Upload & Download
With the NeatCloud web interface, you can upload files into, or download files from your Digital Filing System – no matter where you are.

Email-in to NeatCloud
Forward e-receipts, or any email – with or without attachments – directly into your Digital Filing System.

Backup
With NeatCloud, your entire Digital Filing System will be securely backed up and protected on the cloud. That means it’s safer to store something in the cloud than on just your computer, and a broken computer or a lost phone no longer means lost files.

Sync
NeatCloud keeps your files synced in the cloud and across your devices. Access your most up-to-date information on multiple computers, your mobile devices (with NeatMobile), or with any web browser.
