Calibrating Your Scanner
In certain environments the newest scanner drivers require re-calibration of your scanner for optimal images. If you experience low quality scanned images, please re-calibrate your scanner. Calibration is a process that helps the scanner differentiate between black, white, shades of gray, and different colors. Calibrating helps the scanner to “see” correctly and provide accurate images.
What You’ll Need Before You Start: Your calibration sheet.
If you don’t have a calibration sheet, you can use a blank white piece of paper (unlined).
Step 1: Connect your scanner
Step 2: Launch NeatWorks and open the Quick Scan Center
The Quick Scan Center can be opened by double clicking on the Neat icon located in your system tray in the bottom right corner of your screen, by the time and date.
Step 3: Calibrate your scanner
The Scanner Calibration Window can be opened by clicking on the Calibrate link located in the bottom left corner of the Quick Scan Center. Insert your calibration sheet and follow the on screen instructions. Please note that for some white mobile scanners, it is normal for calibration to take several minutes. It’s very important to make sure that the calibration paper is firmly inserted before clicking the Calibrate button.
After the Calibration Success message has been displayed on your screen, you may use NeatWorks as you normally would.
If for any reason you were NOT able to calibrate your scanner following the instructions above, please follow the instructions below to calibrate your scanner via the Scanner Maintenance Utility:
CALIBRATING YOUR SCANNER VIA THE SCANNER MAINTENANCE UTILITY
Step 1: Close NeatWorks and the Quick Scan Center
Both NeatWorks and the Quick Scan center must be closed in order to proceed. Closing NeatWorks is easy – just click the red X in the upper right corner of the application. The Quick Scan center, if it is open, is usually sitting in the system tray in the bottom right corner of your screen, by the time and the date. Find the white circular icon there, right-click on it and choose Exit. Once both applications are closed, you may proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Download the Scanner Maintenance Utility
We have released a small utility to provide a smoother calibration experience for all of our customers. Follow these steps to download and set up the maintenance utility. Right-click this link and choose Save Target As to download the calibration utility. As shown in the image below, save it in an easy-to-find location:
After you have saved the calibration utility, open the folder where you had saved it and double-click on the new icon. It’ll look like our normal icons; a white circle with orange triangles. The following dialog will appear:
Click Run at that dialog. This application will extract the necessary files for our calibration utility.
By default, this will extract the calibration utility to a folder right next to the location where you downloaded the executable. If you like, you may change the destination. These instructions assume that you will use the default value. After extracting, double-click on the newly created folder shown below:
Inside that folder, you’ll see the following files. Double-click on the one we have pointed out below to open the calibration utility:
Step Three: Calibrate Your Scanner
The calibration utility will open up and display the following screen:
Follow the instructions on the screen to calibrate your scanner. Please note that for some white mobile scanners, it is normal for the calibration to take several minutes. It’s very important to make sure that the calibration paper is firmly inserted before clicking the Calibrate button; you will see the best results if the paper can be moved immediately.
After the Calibration Success! message has been displayed on your screen, you may open your software again and scan.
